Nothing says family like fruits and nuts...

Ladies and gentlemen, I have decided that, this year, the Halls are making....

A Fruitcake.

More specifically, the Halls are making an awesome tasting, non-brick based, absolutely no dried citron to be found because Cortney *hates* it, basted daily with rum or maybe brandy, home-freakin'-MADE fruitcake.

Even more specifically, this fruitcake, from Alton Brown, whom I trust implicitly. I think it's the glasses.

This is a tradition Matt and I discussed starting. His dad and my mom (who makes awesome fruitcake cookies each year) are the only people we know who profess to love fruitcake, and he and I *want* to love it, but it just seems that so many incarnations are, well, horrible. We love the idea that we have to make it a few weeks in advance and baby it and store it and spray it and all that. We love that we can get fruits in there we actually like. We just adore the idea that it's sort of an old fashioned thing we can bring out to celebrate the holiday (like the year my mom made a traditional plum pudding from scratch, set ablaze table side and served with the hard whiskey sauce--of course, then the dog sneaked up on the table and ate it while we were opening presents because we were all too full at the time to eat it right after dinner, and that was no good, but otherwise, the thought was what counted). So, Fruitcake. A new Hall Family Tradition. I'll let you know how it goes. In the mean time, what do you guys think of fruitcake?

We call Rylie 'Fruitcake' all the time. I think I could like it. I don't think I've ever actually had one. I say go for it. Traditions make everything better.
