No Lights for You!

So...the lights.

We're having, um, electrical issues. It turns out that all our exterior outlets (including everything in the garage) are all on the same circuit. Too many lights plugged into one circuit = kicking a breaker every time the fridge in the garage cuts on. Yeah. So, we're working on it. Hopefully we'll have all our *issues* fixed this week, and I'll be able to dazzle you all with my sparkly house once again.

So, in lieu of lights, you get cakes.

I've been a busy little cake decorator lately. I finished my last class on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and I'm so excited about all the fun stuff I learned. Fondant and gumpaste are a blast, who knew? So for my final I put all my new found knowledge to use, and made a little fondant covered square cake, with drapery and gumpaste flowers all in fall colors, with some copper colored luster dust and little fondant acorns I made with my own little hands. If that sounds like Greek to you, well, it should, no one should have this much useless cake knowledge, but (to borrow a line from Yukon Cornelieus) lookie what I can do!

So, after my triumphs with cakes for class, I jumped head first into a few paid cakes. Because I'm crazy like that. My aunt was catering a Casino-themed party this weekend, and asked for my help. The result? My first real paid cake, and boy did it feel good to deliver (and, let's be honest, to cash the check ;) )

Finally, to round out my weekend, as I was delivering the casino cake I was handed another order, for a rush sheet cake to feed 100 at a 25th anniversary celebration for an accounting firm in town. OKAY. Can do! The finished cake was wheeled out with lit sparklers I provided for them, but I don't have any pictures of that, unfortunately. I'm thrilled with how it came out, though, and just hope it was as much of a hit at the luncheon.

All in all, not a bad way to spend a few days, and make a little extra cash for Christmas. Y'all, I think I could get used to this gig . . . ;)
